Spirit of Europe leads into the Estonian shoreline

Spirit of Europe under the experienced hand of Tim Kröger has started strongly in the 2015 Nord Stream Race, current leaders with 290 miles left of the 800nm marathon, the team are in high spirits. Competition is close with four Swan 60s in a tight pack at the front of the Nord Stream Race fleet. Bronenosec leads this pack in 2nd place but is having to battle against the Gazprom Youth Sailing Challenge to retain this position.

Tsaar Peter with the Gazprom Youth Sailing Challenge crew led off the line at Flensburg and have retained their 3rd position past Gotland having enjoyed time in 2nd place during the last 24 hours. The 22 year old skipper on board Petite Flamme is however, hot on their heels in 4th and will push Tsaar Peter to source every knot of boat speed to keep ahead.

The Swan 60s are working to try and break the current speed record for the route from Flensburg to Saint Petersburg which was set by Outsider in 2013. The entries will need the pressure to increase in order to break the 3 days and 38 minutes previously set.

As the teams head towards the Estonian coastline Spirit of Europe covers Bronenosec tightly and Petite Flamme fights to gain clear air on Tsaar Peter. All Swan 60s are averaging over 10 knots keeping the pace face in the Baltic Sea.

SGM with Joachim Brunner at the helm shared good news after confirming the will be re-joining the race after successful repairs in Rostock.
