Year of Russia celebrations at Monaco
The Principality of Monaco has designated
2015 as 'the Year of Russia' and to coincide with celebrations they have
announced a new yachting festival to include the Gazprom Swan 60 class and a
youth Optimist regatta.
A vision of female Russian sailor, Ekaterina Skudina, World and European
champion as well as representing her country twice in the Olympic Games, the
event promises glamour. Teaming up with the Yacht Club de Monaco and
Saint Petersburg Yacht Club, Russia the event will be held over the weekend of
June 6th and 7th.
The Swan 60s will race short courses whilst the younger generation enjoy the
Optimist regatta close by. The sailing element is a part of a 12 month
programme of events including concerts, exhibitions and conferences which seek
to honour the Russia-Monaco year.
The racing will work to strengthen relations between Russia and Monaco into the
future.
