Juan Calvo Boronat from Real Club Náutico de Valencia will skipper Swan 60
Petite Flamme in this year’s Nord Stream Race starting on the 20th
September. At only 22 years of age this
is a tough entry race into the Gazprom Swan 60 circuit with 800nm offshore to
cover.
Juan Calvo started sailing at 8 years old and was top 10 at the Optimist
Europeans, he then moved into the Europe dinghy class taking a 6th at the Worlds
and 2nd at the Europeans.
More recently the Spanish racer has been sailing an X-41 winning the
Corinthian Class at the 2015 ORC World Championships and finishing 10th
overall. Last year he was 3rd at Copa
Espana ORC and 5th at Trofeo Conde de Godo ORC.
Juan Calvo is eager to start the Nord Stream Race, “I chose to race the
Swan 60 this year after winning the ORC World Championship in the Corinthian
Class, so this is a great step for myself and my crew. Antonio Marinez, Juan Faus and Nicolas
Linares are my core crew, we won our ORC title together”.
The Spanish crew have raced together for 3 years putting together some
fantastic race series. Joining Petite
Flamme for the Nord Stream Race will be Florian Kreis who, a Rolex Sydney
Hobart Race Champion and has completed the race an impressive four times. Florian will bring important offshore
experience to the team.
